Ad Published 8-1-12

A VNSM estimator will be responsible for planning, directing and coordinating projects bidding, which includes all types of commercial, industrial structures, schools, hospitals, and other public works projects. You will work with our clients, general contractors, and others such as owners, engineers, architects, and others who are involved in the construction process.  He/she will evaluate and help determine appropriate construction delivery systems and the most cost-effective plan and schedule for completing the project. They will divide all required construction site activities into logical steps, budgeting the time required to meet established deadlines.

A VNSM estimator must be flexible and work effectively in a fast-paced environment. He/she should be decisive and work well under pressure, particularly when faced with unexpected occurrences or delays. The ability to coordinate several major activities at once, while analyzing and resolving specific problems, is essential, as is an understanding of engineering, architectural, and other construction drawings. Good oral and written communication skills also are important, as are leadership skills. An estimator must be able to establish a good working relationship with many different people, including owners, other managers, and designers, supervisors, and craft workers.

Persons interested in becoming an estimator for VNSM need a solid background in architectural sheet metal. They need to understand contracts, plans, and specifications, and to be knowledgeable about construction methods, materials, and regulations. Familiarity with computers and software programs for job costing, online collaboration, scheduling, and estimating also is important.

We offer a very competitive compensation package and excellent benefits including: 100% company paid medical and dental insurance for the employee, 401K, 125 Cafeteria plan, 2 weeks Paid Time Off after 1 year of service and 10-12 paid holidays per year.

VNSM's success since 1934 has been the direct result of the dedicated, professional and service oriented individuals who make up the VNSM family. We pride ourselves on the longevity of our staff. At VNSM we are committed to creating a culture of trust and respect - an environment where people actively listen to one another, sharing experiences and ideas. Our success depends on it.
